Meet the Expert
Moro Family
Meet the Expert: In Murano since 1985, the Colleoni Artistic Glassworks has been managed by the Moro family.
Thanks to collaboration with the most talented glass masters, the company produces one of the most extensive ranges of objects, from table sets, vases, chandeliers, and sculptures to finishing with costume jewelry.
The elaborate production of objects in Murano always requires a team of helpers and assistants who follow the master during production.
After a 10-year apprenticeship, with talent and passion, an assistant can aspire to become a master.
The origins of glass date back to ancient times. Archaeologists have discovered artifacts dating back to 3000 BC in ancient Mesopotamia.
Through the centuries, as the secret passed from the Phoenicians to the Egyptians and then to the Romans, glass arrived in Murano in the 12th century.
At that time, the Republic of Venice was a powerful and wealthy empire based on trade; its naval fleet reached across the entire Mediterranean.
The proximity of the mountains ensured a continuous supply of wood to fuel the Murano furnaces 24 hours a day.
